Memory of the World Register

The Memory of the World register was created to guard against the destruction and loss of documents, which reflect diversity or languages, peoples and cultures in the world. Perhaps the most famous of these is the Hunminjeongeum (훈민정음), which was written by King Sejong (새종 대왕) and his scholars to help introduce the new Korean alphabet to the people. Another example of Korean documents in the Memory of the World register is the Donguibogam (동의보감) which is a medical book that was compiled by Heo Jun (허준) a royal physician who lived during the Joseon Dynasty.
