Buddhism was first introduced to Korea in the year 372. It's long history in the country means that it has had a very deep impact on Korean thought, culture, art, and architecture. If you are interested in Buddhism or even just looking to take some fantastic photos, you can explore the over 900 temples on the peninsula. Perhaps one of the most well known temples is located in Gyeongju, known as Bulguksa Temple (불국사). Bulguksa was built in 528 during the Silla Dynasty in the 15th year of King Beop-Heung's reign (514~540). A visit to Jirisan (지리산) will give you access to 7 major temples, one of them being Hwaeomsa (화엄사), home to a number of national treasures.
