Introduction

The Gangnam NANTA Theatre(Woorim Chungdam Theater) is in Cheongdam-dong on Rodeo Drive, a long street lined with fashion boutiques and exquisite restaurants that are representative of Gangnam, Seoul. The theater is a comprehensive cultural performance center that stages musicals, plays, and concerts, that embody the spirit of youth and class in Seoul. The theater seats around 290 persons. It is designed like a movie theater in that there is adequate space between the seats. Arm rests can be lowered if necessary. The stage is at eye-level with the audience, making for a more comfortable and enjoyable viewing experience. The surround sound speaker system is set up just like that of a movie theater and has numerous large woofers.

A statue of King Kong clings to the side of the building, putting smiles on the faces of everyone visiting the theater. A wide array of shops and restaurants line the streets nearby so visitors to the theater can go shopping and indulge themselves in delicacies after the performance. Since March 2006, the theater has been featuring NANTA, a performance that shares with the audience what happens in a kitchen, based on comic and dramatic elements, using the rhythms of samullori (traditional percussion quartet ensemble) that are unique to Korea.
