| The Jangsu region of Jeollabuk-do is one of the least developed inland areas in the country. Located deep in the mountains, the area sits on a plateau with an average elevation of 500 meters above sea level. It is also where Geumgang and Seomjingang, two of the country’s four major rivers, start.
Waryong Recreational Forest (와룡자연휴양림), established in 1996, can accommodate about 600 people each day and is open all year round. Its facilities include a camping ground, camping deck, benches, various other facilities and lodgings, such as a recreational centre, cottages and cabins. For children the park has year-round sledding, an outdoor swimming pool and a natural water park. It has a space for educational programs and a recreational/cultural area. The hiking trail extending from the park to the valley leads to Ogyechi Gogaetmaru (hilltop), the watershed of Geumgang and Seomjingang. The trail is a narrow path through a thick, lush forest, ideal for taking a stroll. At the top of Ogyechi, you can take in the lovely view of the open grass field brightened up with all kinds of wild flowers in September. In October, visitors will be enchanted with the green pampas grass and colourful autumn leaves. |

| From Nambu Terminal take a Jangsu-bound bus departing four times daily (9:20, 10:40, 13:40, 14:35). The journey takes 3 hours 30 minutes. From Jangsu Terminal take a bus bound for Cheoncheon, and get off at Donchon (돈촌). From Donchon, take a bus bound for Waryong, and get off at Sang-ri (상리). |
