Introduction
The history of Yonsei University dates back to 1885 when Horace Newton Allen, the American protestant missionary, established the country’s first modern hospital, Gwanghyewon (later renamed as Jejungwon). Yonsei University was Korea’s first medical school. In 1923, the school’s name was Yonhui college, which then changed into Yonhui University in 1957. Then, with the merger with Severance Medical School, the school adopted its current name, Yonsei University. Yonsei University is one of most prestigious universities in Korea and has one of the most beautiful campuses in Seoul. The abundance of trees, the ivy covered European-like buildings, and Cheongsongdae, a romantic walking path for couples, are particularly famous. Many foreign students study in the Korean Language Institute, which was established in 1969.
