Introduction
The Sudeoksa Temple, which has played an important role in the history of Korea’s Buddhism, is located in the Deoksungsan Mountains. The main building of the Sudeoksa Temple, the Daeunjeon, has been preserved in its original condition. This was first constructed in 1308 and has been designated a national treasure. Between 1528 and 1803 it was repaired four times, but fortunately kept its original beauty. As well as the Deungjeon, the Sudeoksa Temple houses many cultural treasures, such as the Sudeoksa 3-storey stone pagoda.

Activity Information
The Sudeoksa temple stay is designed to allow participants to get away from the harsh realities of life, release everyday stresses, and revitalize their minds and bodies in the peaceful atmosphere of this 1,500-year-old temple.
The day starts early in the morning with a group walk around the yard to awaken the mind. Then, participants attend the early morning service in the Daeungjeon Hall with the monks and give 108 bows, as custom dictates. Afterwards, they engage in Zen exercise, which helps relieve muscle fatigue, followed by seated meditation. During the day, participants engage in self-reflection while writing Buddhist texts. The schedule continues with a trip to Mount Deoksungsan and the mountain hermitage, allowing visitors not only to enjoy the beauty of the area’s pine trees, but to follow in the footsteps of great, virtuous monks. During the temple stay, participants can also visit the Maaesamjonbul Statues of Seosan and Taean, as well as the Ganworam Hermitage for a fabulous view of the sea and the mountain.
