| Introduction |
|
Nongam House was originally located in Buncheon Village near the Dosanseowon Confucian Academy. The buildings of this hanok were moved to different areas when the village was flooded in 1976. In 2003, the scattered buildings were moved to their current locations. The relocation of the Bungangseowon (Confucian memorial hall) completed the move of the old Nongam House buildings, now referred to as Bungangchon.
The house was owned by Lee Hyeon-bo, a great writer from the Joseon Dynasty. He used the pen name Nongam, and wrote Eobuga (Song of a Fisherman) and Nongamga (Song of Nongam). After he retired from politics, Lee lived a frugal and unworldly life as a peasant in Buncheon Village. Because of his integrity, he was highly respected as a true classical scholar. His house was moved to its current location at Bungangchon in Gasong-ri, as the current site has a similar environment to that of Buncheon Village. |
