| Introduction |
|
This is the old house of Lee Man-do, also known by his pen name Hyangsan. He was an independence activist who fasted to death in protest against the Japanese colonial rule. His son, daughter-in-law, and grandson also joined in the independence movement.
The hanok consists of a straight-lined Sarangchae (men's quarters), and a ㄷ-shaped Anchae (women's quarters). The two buildings sit together to form a square. The Sarangchae measures 3 kans* in length, and has a gabled roof. The walls are made of mud with wooden columns used as reinforcements. This hanok is enclosed by a lush forest of pine and chestnut trees.
