| Gwangju Culture & Art Center is located in the northeast of Gwangju-si and includes a range of representative cultural pieces from ancient times to the modern era. The Art Center is affiliated with several museums nearby including the Gwangju National Museum, Jungoe Park, the Municipal Folk Museum, and the Gwangju Museum of Art.
The 4,145-pyeong / 13,700 square-meter center consists of a main stage for performance art, 10 practice rooms, 8 electrical rooms, an auditorium with 1,792 seats and over 600 pyeongs / 1,983 square meters of lobby space. The center, as a performance art hall complex, supports all types of art including opera, ballet, modern dance, theater, and Korean traditional opera. It is set amidst the beautiful Unamsan Mountain area and serves as a soothing getaway for urbanites. |

| [Grand Theater] The Grand Theater is a proscenium theater with an upstairs balcony. The theater is designed for various genres of performances including concerts, plays, movies, operas, ballets, and musicals. The large theater lobby has a skylight, which lets in the sun and increases the theater’s dramatic atmosphere. [Small Theatre] The small theater is a multi-purpose art space for all types of performances including plays, Korean traditional music performances, and concerts. The theater was created to provide space for small and medium-sized art group performances and has a semi open stage. Seats are not fixed to the floor and can be arranged depending on the staging needs of each performance. [Korean Traditional Music Center] In December 1992 the Korean Traditional Music Center was created to preserve and develop the culture of Korean traditional music while restoring Namdo Sori (Pansori of the Southern regions of Korea). The center also serves as a major platform for artworks of Gwangju Municipal Folklore Art Troupe, and Gwangju Municipal Korean Traditional Orchestra. The center houses practice rooms and the experience center for Namdo Sori. At the entrance is a bronze statue of Im Bang-ul, national singer of Pansori. |
