Introduction

Established in May 1984 in Ansan, the Ansan Cultural Center aims to collect and preserve local cultural heritage items, offer educational opportunities and exhibitions to visitors, and promote the local culture. Visitors can find abundant opportunities to learn about the history and culture of Ansan through cultural seminars and events.

Exhibition Hall Information

* First Floor
- Special Exhibition Hall: exhibitions on history and culture of Ansan
- Local Cultural Heritage Hall:
• ‘A’ Zone (City of History, Ansan): shows the history of Ansan through replicas of the main structures in Ansan, local cultural properties, and local historic sites, as well as multi-media materials
• ‘B’ Zone (Treasure of Life, Tidelands): introduces the life of the tidelands in Ansan and their vitality
• ‘C’ Zone (Industry in Ansan): explains the main industries of Ansan (agriculture, fishing, and salt farms)
• ‘D’ Zone (Life of Ansan Residents): displays folk relics used by Ansan residents throughout history (clothes, food, housing, etc.)

* Second Floor
- Executive Office, Director's Office, Administrative Office, Danwon Room, Sangroksu Room, Seongho Room, and Pyoam Room

* Third Floor
- Archives: 3,000 books and materials related to local history and folklore in addition to DVDs and video tapes
- Ansan Historical Research Institute (Art and Science Office): as a subsidiary of Ansan Cultural Center, gathers and records the local history of Ansan
- Cultural Hall: equipped with excellent lighting, sound, and visual equipment as well as 150 seats for various cultural and art performances
- Musical Instrument Storage and Sound Control Room

* Additional Attractions
- Waterwheel (called “Mullebanga” in Korean): used for irrigating and grinding crops and supplying water to villages.
- Millstone worked by horses and oxen (“Yeonjabanga” or “Yeonjamae” in Korean)
- Treadmill Grinder (called “Didilbanga in Korea): worked by both feet to grind crops
- Blacksmith: where agricultural tools are sharpened or remade
- Traditional straw-roofed house in Ansan: a restored traditional straw-roofed house showing the typical style of housing in the central region of Korea, including ondol (underfloor heating)
