Royal Guard-Changing Ceremony Every day, Deoksugung Palace is crowded with people taking pictures in front of the Daehanmun gate. Why is this? Many people come to see the royal guard-changing ceremony. The guardians of the palace stood watch at the front gate, 24 hours a day. The people who guarded the gate of the palace were called "Sumungun (Gatekeepers)," and their leader was Sumunjang, the chief gatekeeper.
