The balmy climate and quality soil of Jeju have led to a flourishing agricultural society, famous for its delicious produce. The Hallabong (also called the ‘Dekopon’) is probably the single most recognizable agricultural item of Jeju and is a super sweet citrus fruit similar to a tangerine or orange. These Jeju tangerines are well known nationwide for their delicious sweet-and-sour taste and juicy flesh.
The expensive red tilefish is another renowned product of Jeju. It is usually sold in dried or frozen form and boiled in a soup or roasted for consumption. Cactus (Jeju Natural Monument No. 35) is sold in candied or extract form. Cactus and other plants grown on Jeju are often made into chocolates, resulting in a delectable array of sweets made from natural ingredients such as bokbunja (Korean black raspberry), hallabong, and omija (berry).
