Transformation to Center of Fashion
Until the arrival of a number of famous fashion brands in the mid-1990s, Munjeong-dong was a sleepy little town located on the far outskirts of southeast Seoul. Since then the area has become known as ‘Rodeo Street,’ receiving enthusiastic responses from fashion leaders everywhere.
The Largest Outlet Shopping Center in Korea
Munjeong-dong Rodeo Street is the first outlet shopping center in Korea to house such a wide variety of brand names. Over 200 stores line the streets near the Town Office (Munjeong 1-dong), offering a variety of products including men’s and women’s suits, casual wear, sportswear, and shoes. Unlike other outlets, this shopping center offers a huge selection of brands that cater to everyone from teenyboppers to senior citizens.
Famous Brands at Discounted Prices
Visitors can purchase Korean and international name brand products (including new arrival items) at discounted prices ranging from 30 to 70% off. Famous international brands that sell for seemingly outrageous prices at department stores can be found here for a fraction of the price, attracting groups of tourists from Japan, China, and Hong Kong to Rodeo Street all year-round. In response to the great influx of international visitors, the local government has built a parking lot that is exclusively reserved for tourists and can be used free of charge. The shopping area also includes all the restaurants and amenities tourists need to fuel themselves for their busy shopping day. Events include a variety of fashion shows and festivals that run according to the season.
