Samcheong dong- Pleasant surprises at every turn
Samcheong-dong
Pleasant surprises at every turn
“Whoever said money can’t buy
happiness simply didn’t know
where to go shopping.”
- Bo Derek -
There is something magical about the air in Samcheong-dong.  It could be it's location at the base of Samcheongsan Mountain.  Or perhaps the fact that many traditional style Korean homes are still intact and have been converted into boutique galleries, cafes, restaurants and shops.  Those with an eye for style will never be disappointed, as astetics always take top priority. Every shop has its own unique style inside and outside, and new shops are springing up all the time.

Samcheong-dong is like a quite escape in the middle of a bustling city.  Shopkeepers greet you by telling you to “Please look around at your own leisure, and if you see something you like, let us know.” Some might engage you in a little friendly conversation. The shopping experience around Samcheong-dong can very well turn into a calming therapy of sorts. All the stores carry their own unique styles: vintage, retro, hippie, romantic, and classic chic. Women of different ages and styles can come here and find something unique or purchase timeless classic pieces like bags, shoes and jewelry.  Prices range from reasonable to high-end, but visitors who pay cash can get a small discount. If all the shopping and walking tires you out, there are plenty of restaurants, coffee shops or teahouses with delicious food, beautiful views and garden seats.

Samcheong-dong is best approached via exit 1 of Anguk Station, line 3. Walk in the direction of Gwanghwamun Gate and swing a right at the Dongsipjagak Intersection. Keep walking until you get to the street. The stores have different operating hours but many of the shops open around 11am and close at 9pm.

Econ Boutique at Samcheongdong
Almost all the boutiques and shops in Samcheong-dong deserve a mention. Right across from the flower shop at the corner is a stylish see-through boutique called Econ. It’s easily recognizable with its stylishly dressed manikin displays and chandelier. The store is not that big, but is famous for carrying classic and basic pieces. Most of the products there are made of silk and cotton. You can also find matching accessories to go with your purchased item. The boutique has a good collection of jackets or suits that come in numerous styles. Most of the products are chic and feminine. They offer 5% discount for purchases made by cash. Prices start from 90,000 won. Some of the pieces are very reasonable given the quality and style of the product. The boutique opens at 11 am and closes at 9 pm. Give them a ring at (02) 737-6468.
