The Lotus Lantern festival, which is held every year in Korea,
commemorates the birth of Buddha. Many foreign tourists attend this festival,
which provides a great opportunity to experience Korea’s Buddhist culture. “
The 2009 Lotus Lantern festival” will be held from April 24-26 in the downtown
areas of Seoul, Seoul Plaza, and Jogyesa temple, whilst this year Buddha’s
birthday actually falls on May 2.
The main event of the festival is the
magnificent lantern parade. Spectacular lantern floats shaped as dragons,
pagodas, white elephants and more, as well as 100,000 individual lanterns will
parade from Dongdaemun to Jogyesa temple.
A huge lantern that symbolizes the birth of Buddha will be set up in Seoul
Plaza, and other festive events
include the traditional lantern exhibition, featuring lanterns shaped like
fruit, animals and more, and the Buddhist Culture Street Fair where you can
enjoy traditional songs and dances and even learn how to make your own lotus
lantern.
The main events of the Lotus Lantern festival will take place on Sunday April 26.
