[Korea] Jeju Field-Burning Festival 2014 from March 7-9

Photo credit: Jeju-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province

The Jeju Field-Burning Festival, one of the landmark celebrations of Jeju Island, will take place on Saebyeol Oreum from March 7 to 9, 2014.

Now in its 17th year, the festival has been holding this traditional farming custom annually since 1997 to wish for peace and harvest on the island. Under the theme “Healing in Jeju,” this year’s program includes making traditional roof ropes (a special activity for foreigners), heavy rock lifting, and other local and traditional practices.

Throughout the three-day duration, there will be numerous events and activities lined up. Food stalls will be set up so visitors can try Jeju’s regional food and alcohol, as well as other international food offerings.

Anyone visiting Saebyeol Oreum can enjoy the festival free of charge.
