[Korea] 20 Winter Festivals Selected by KTO

With winter in full swing, there's no better time to check out the many winter festivals Korea has to offer. The Korea Tourism Organization has selected 20 winter festivals and divided them into themes to cover different areas of interest.

Having the largest amount of snowfall in Korea, Gangwon-do offers a lot snow and ice-related festivals such as the Daegwallyeong Snow Festival, Inje Icefish Festival, Pyeongchang Trout Festival and the Hwacheon Sancheoneo (Mount Trout) Ice Festival. Light festivals such as the Boseong Green Tea Plantation Light Festival, where the green tea fields are dressed up in colorful light bulbs, Busan Christmas Tree Festival and the Yeosu Bitnoriya Festival are also some of the must-see festivals.

The programs for winter festivals are highly dependent on weather conditions. Therefore, it is highly recommended to check the festival's schedule in advance before going. Most winter festivals run until early or mid February; however some festivals may end earlier depending on the condition of the ice or snow.
