[Korea] Sunchang Fermented Soybean Festival 2013 starts Oct 31

The Sunchang Fermented Soybean Festival 2013, one of the up-and-coming festivals in the list of 2013 Culture Tourism Festivals of Korea, will take place from October 31 to November 3 in the vicinity of Sunchang Gochujang Village in Sunchang-gun, Jeollabuk-do.

Because of its great taste and nutritional value, Sunchang red pepper paste was often included as one of the presents to the king during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). At the festival, there will be a parade of people presenting the Sunchang red pepper paste to the king. The festival will hold a wide range of exciting activities including making 2013 servings of red pepper paste tteokbokki, making 2013 servings of red pepper paste bibimbap, making a 300-meter long jangajji* gimbap and more. Hands-on activities include soybean paste making and red pepper paste making.

Admission to the festival is free.

*Jangajji: refers to pickled vegetables in soy sauce, soybean paste or red pepper paste.
