The Cheongju International Craft Biennale 2013 began on September 11 and will run until October 20, taking place in the vicinity of the Old Tobacco Processing Plant* in Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do.

The 8th Cheongju International Craft Biennale is the biggest in scale in the biennale’s history. This year, the biennale’s theme is “Something Old, Something New” and it will have the participation of about 3,000 artists from 60 countries. Major programs include the two main exhibitions, the Craft Competition, Guest Country Pavilion (this year’s guest country is Germany), International Art Fair, and a craft-making program. The biennale is also introducing Star Craft, a new addition to this year. This exhibit features art works by Korean celebrities like Jungwoo Ha and Hyesun Koo.

Admission to the biennale is 10,000 won for adults, 4,000 won for teens and 3,000 won for kids.

*Old Tobacco Processing Plant – built in 1946, this old tobacco manufacturing plant was a major contributor to Cheongju’s industrial economy until the 1990s. As 2000s rolled in, the place was converted into a culture industry complex. Today, it hosts various exhibits, performances and cultural events.
