A special historical and cultural festival called Nakdonggang World Peace Culture Festival 2013 will be launched on September 11, 2013 in the county of Chilgok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
This festival aims to shed new light on the historical meaning of the Korean War* and to convey the message of world peace to the world. At the cultural center, visitors can learn about the 21 countries involved in the war, and indirectly and directly experience the horror and sorrow of the Korean War. There will also be peace-themed hands-on programs and performances during the festival. Admission to the festival is free of charge.
The festival will be held in Chilgok County, a historic battlefield where most of the fiercest fighting took place. It was also the nation’s last line of defense in the Korean War.
*The Korean War – the tragic war between South Korea and North Korea that took place from June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953.
