The Seoul Metropolitan Government has designated 2013 as a year for rooting out petty crimes against foreign tourists through a widespread crackdown along with additional countermeasures.
The government plans to strengthen its crackdown on overcharging taxis, call vans, shops and restaurants from April 22 to May 7, when a higher number of foreign tourists are expected to visit the country. During the period, a Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency investigation will focus on taxis and call vans operating in areas frequented by foreign tourists. The police agency has also launched an inspection of stores and restaurants to ensure each establishment is clearly marking the prices of their goods. In addition, undercover “mystery shoppers” are also collaborating in the inspections.
Any individual that suspects they are a victim of overcharges should call the Seoul Dasan Call Center (02-120) or the Tourist Complaint Center (02-735-0101).
