[Korea] Witness Preeminent Joseon-era Ceremony May 5

Jongmyodaeje is a traditional ritual designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage that will take place at Jongmyo Shrine in Jongno-gu, Seoul-si on May 5.

JongmyoDaeje is a royal ancestral ritual performed to honor the past kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty and wish for the peace and prosperity of the country and its people. The ceremony is reenacted every year in downtown Seoul because it is regarded as the Joseon Dynasty’s top ceremony. This yearly demonstration has continued to attract attention from local and international tourists thanks to its grandeur and special features.

This year, Korea Tourism Organization has organized a designated section for international tourists. Admission to the designated section is free of charge, but visitors are required to submit an application via email (ljh6234@knto.or.kr). Participants will be guided through the ceremony and will receive simultaneous interpretation (English and Japanese). They will also receive souvenirs (a knee blanket, sun visor, and bottle of water).

* Applications are no longer being accepted because all 70 spaces have been filled. Thank you for your interest.
