The Gwangalli Eobang Festival 2013 is slated to be held at Gwangalli Beach in Suyeong-gu, Busan-si for 3 days from April 26-28.

Marking its 13th year this year, the Gwangalli Eobang Festival is all about the traditional fishing culture in the Suyeong-gu region. The festival was selected as one of the ‘2013 Culture Tourism Festivals of Korea’ by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. There will be many fishing-related attractions and 37 different programs in five diverse fields. There will be spectacular events such as shows and performances, hands-on activities, exhibitions, drawing in the Eobang net and a traditional fishing scene called Jindueowha (a ceremony to wish for harvesting a ship full of fish) where lights from 32 fishing boats create a breath-taking view.

Other programs will include ‘Night Market’, ‘Catching Fish with Bare Hands’, ‘Making a Wishing Lantern’, and traditional performances. Admission to the festival is free of charge.

* "Eobang" was the name of the cooperative fishermen's union of the Suyeong region of Busan during the Joseon Dynasty.
