In its 14th year, the Gurye Sansuyu Flower Festival will take place from March 29-31 around the Jirisan Hot Spring Complex.
The Gurye Sansuyu Flower Festival is held to promote Gurye, a designated city of tourism and leisure known for Sansuyu (Cornelian cherries). Gurye is responsible for 70% of Korea’s Sansuyu fruit production.
The festival takes place every spring when Sansuyu flower blossoms are in full bloom. This year, the festival will start with a ceremony called Pungnyeon kiwonje (풍년기원제) to pray for a year of good harvest. This ceremony will take place on March 29 at 10:30 a.m. at Gyecheok Village in Sandong-Myeon, the site where the first Sansuyu tree in the region was planted.
Visitors to the festival can participate in various activities and can even try Sansuyu inspired food or get a Sansuyu foot bath. Various folk games will take place and there will be a Gurye Spring themed photo contest with a first place prize worth 500,000 won. Admission to the festival is free, but fees may apply to participate in some of the accompanying activities.
