The 2013 Gangneung Full Moon Rite will be held on February 24 near Namdaecheon Stream.
Starting with a local ritual, the festival will hold daljip burning*, a distinctive full moon celebratory program, as well as various performances including a percussion quartet and a mask play. Admission is free.
Meanwhile, the Full Moon Rite is a famous Jeongwol Daeboreum (Day of the first full moon; 15th day on the lunar calendar) celebration in Gangneung. Started in 1991, the festival has become one of the city’s major events.
* Daljip burning: Burning daljip (a heap of straw or twigs) is a symbolic custom of warding off misfortune and bringing good luck.
