The traditional New Year's tolling of the Bosingak Bell will be held at the Bosingak Belfry in downtown Jongno starting from 11:30 on December 31, 2012 to 00:30 on January 1, 2013.
At the Bosingak Bell tolling ceremony, which has been held since 1953, the bell is rung 33 times at the stroke of midnight to welcome the New Year. This is one of the traditions from Joseon Dynasty to bid farewell to this year and greet the coming year, wishing health and happiness to everyone in the New Year.
The mayor of Seoul and a diverse group of citizens participate in the bell ringing ceremony. There will also be a special concert featuring ‘Korea Junior Big Band’, ‘Hanullim Saxophone Ensemble’, tenor Cho Yong Kap, and singer In Sooni.
