[Korea] Ulsan Ganjeolgot Sunrise Festival

Watching the sunrise on New Year’s Day is a popular tradition in Korea. All across the country, communities gather to hold an overnight sunrise festival starting on New Year’s Eve and lasting until the following morning.

The Ganjeolgot Sunrise Festival is one of the more famous sunrise festivals, as it is held in Ulsan where the sunrise can be viewed the earliest. This year, the festival is set to run from 6:00 p.m. on December 31st, 2012 until 9:00 a.m. on January 1st, 2013 in the area Gangjeolgot Cape.

The festival will present a range of programs including a year-end concert, fireworks show, film screening, traditional dance performance, and wish balloon flying. It will also serve tteokguk (rice cake soup), the signature New Year’s dish.

Meanwhile, Ganjeolgot’s first sunrise of the year 2013 is expected to start at 7:31 a.m.
