[Korea] Layovered Passengers can travel in Seoul sans Visa

Incheon International Airport is operating a program on a trial basis from October 29th, 2012 through January 29th, 2013 that will allow non-Korean nationals with a transferring flight and a layover of 12 hours or less to tour Korea without a standard issued entry visa.

Foreign nationals who are transferring at Incheon International Airport to a third country and Chinese tour group travelers bound for Jeju Island can participate in this program. An official entry permit to the country will only be given to transit passengers when they sign up for the ‘Transit Tourism Program’ designated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Chinese group travelers heading for Jeju Island will be limited to travel within the Seoul metropolitan area only during their layover.

To prevent possible illegal immigration into the country or becoming AWOL, immigration assistants will accompany transit passengers throughout the whole stopover period, helping them complete their immigration process safely while enjoying sightseeing within their scheduled layover.

Once the trial period is over, the government will decide whether to fully launch this program or not.

 Currently, the ‘Transit Tour Program’ is operated by such travel agencies as Hana Tour and Omi Travel. To join the program, all you need to do is to sign up for the program upon arrival at one of the travel agency counters located in Incheon International Airport.
