The Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, an annual event celebrating the Hwaseong Fortress, will take place from October 5th to 7th in Gyeonggi-do Suwon.
During the festival period, there will be a reenactment of such ancient court rituals as the King Jeongjo Parade, and also traditional folk games and performances. In addition, visitors will have a chance to participate in the Citizens’ Parade, Walking Hwaseong Fortress in Jipsin (straw shoes), and other experience programs. The festival is open to the public free of charge, but fees may apply to participation in select programs.
Meanwhile, the Hwaseong Fortress was established during the reign of King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty, and was designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 1997.
