Effective as of July 27, 2012, anyone smoking in the non-smoking zones at cultural heritage sites will be fined 100,000 won.
The
cultural heritage sites include Gyeongbokgung Palace, Deoksugung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, Changgyeonggung Palace, Jongmyo Shrine, Sajikdan Altar, Yeongneung Royal Tomb, Donggureung Royal Tombs, Yungneung Royal Tomb, Yeonghwiwon Tombs and others designated by local governments.
The smoking penalty policy has been introduced to strengthen protection of valuable national assets from fire and any other potential danger.
