[Korea] Seoul Station to Incheon Int’l Airport New Rail Section

Phase 2 of the Airport Railroad Express (AREX)—from Seoul Station to Gimpo Airport—is scheduled to be opened starting December 29th. Four new AREX platforms will be opened along the new section (between Seoul Station and Gimpo Airport) at Seoul Station, Gongdeok (Dec 2011), Hongik University and Digital Media City.

The opening of the second half of the AREX (with the first half already in operation from Incheon to Gimpo) will cut the journey from Seoul Station to the Incheon International Airport to about 40 ~ 50 minutes. Out of the 9 stations on the AREX Commuter Line, travelers can transfer to the Seoul Subway from Gyeyang, Gimpo Airport, Digital Media City, Hongik University and Seoul Station (5 stations).

For the added convenience of those traveling to the airport, a city airport terminal will be opened in the B2 level of Seoul Station where visitors can receive their boarding passes and check-in their luggage.

By the end of 2012, the KTX express train with service to Seoul Station will be extended to Incheon International Airport, meaning that visitors will no longer need to get off at Seoul Station to transfer to the AREX airport line.

Fares for the AREX Commuter Train, which stops at all stations between Seoul Station and the Incheon Airport (a 53 minute-ride) will be 5,300 won. The AREX Express Train (a 43 minute-ride) will be 13,300 won per person. The regular airport limousine bus (10,000 KRW, 70 minutes) and the luxury limousine bus (15,000 KRW, 60 minutes) will remain unaffected by the opening of the new airport railway lines.
