Bongchu-jjimdak (Bongchu-style seasoned and simmered chicken) is a dish that originated long ago in the Gyeongsangdo Andong region. Altered to meet the tastes of modern diners, the fusion dish is prepared by mixing pre-cooked chicken with vegetables (spicy peppers, mushrooms, carrots, etc.) and cellophane noodles. The delectable mix of ingredients is then simmered to perfection at high heat on a large skillet that covers nearly half the table.

After opening its first store in Hongdae on October, 2000, the Bongchu Jjimdak franchise has expanded to include 150 stores nationwide, with branches in Seogyo, Myeongdong, Seocho, Jongno, and Sinchon. Since the restaurant specializes in jjimdak, it’s the only thing on the menu and can be ordered with a half a chicken or a whole chicken, depending on the size of your party. For an extra bit of flavor, order a side of rice and eat it with the remaining jjimdak sauce.
