Synopsis

The movie follows the life and death of Seung-up Jang, a genius painter of the late Joseon era. Seung-up Jang shows a talent in paintings from the time he is small. Even as a boy servant, his innate spark startled grown ups, and his name began to spread through the land. But Seung-up Jang had another great love- alcohol. Anyone who wanted a painting from him would have to entertain him and serve him with ale and wine first. Some time later, he falls in love with the Christian courtesan Mae-Hyang (Ho-Jung Yoo), at a time when Christianity is not tolerated. It seems as though the love will last, but it slips away. He continues to grow as an artist……
