Gwangju is the economic and educational hub of Korea's southwestern region and is often called "Artists' Town" thanks to its exuberant cultural and artistic resources. Gwangju Convention & Visitors Bureau was set up in October 2007 to bring up the city's convention and exhibition industry. Kimdaejung Convention Center, opened on September 6 of 2005, is the sole exhibition and convention center in Jeolla-do province, which is located in the southwestern region of Korea. The center, named after Kim Dae-Jung, the former president of Korea and a Nobel Prize Laureate, offers 10,800 m² of exhibit space equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
