Seongan-gil Road

Seongan-gil Road

Cheongju Seongan-gil, with Jungang Park in the center, offers visitors a look at both the historical past and the current trend in fashion and culture. The name Seongan-gil, meaning road within the fortress walls, was given as the road was enclosed by Cheongjueupseong Fortress in the past. The walking course starts from Iron Flagpole of Yongdusa Temple Site, a cultural heritage designated as National Treasure No. 41, then crosses Jungang Park and ends near downtown. When passing by Jungang Park, don’t miss out on significant cultural heritages such as the 1,000 years old ginkgo tree and Mangseollu Pavilion, a government office during the Joseon period which is now designated as Chungcheongbuk-do Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 110. For those interested in the latest fashion trend, be sure to walk the Rodeo Street, where the heart of youth culture and fashion coexist.

You can find Yongdusa Temple site’s flagpole in front of Lotte Young Plaza near Jungang Park.

2. Map of Cheongjueupseong Fortress:
As you walk along the main street of Seongan-gil Road, you will notice a huge drawing of a map on the ground. This is a map of Cheongju in the past with its fortress walls, sending you back in time to show how the city used to look.

3. Rodeo Street:
A popular street in Cheongju, it resembles Seoul’s Myeong-dong with stores and restaurants. From clothes to accessories as well as numerous restaurants, you can have a blast shopping and eating.
