Busan’s Polar Bear Swimming Contest, an out-of-the ordinary event introduced by BBC Travel in 2010 as one of the top 10 unusual winter sports, will take place on January 12, 2014 at Haeundae Beach.
The swim competition is one of Korea’s major winter sports festivals. Every year, more than 2,000 people brave the freezing cold weather to attend the event. Aside from plunging into the icy-cold waters, visitors can also enjoy other activities at the event such as face painting, polar bear photo sharing, folk games and more.
Registration fee is 20,000 won. Visit the official site or call to register in advance.
