On the last day of 2013, a New Year’s Eve Bell Ringing Ceremony will be held from 23:30 on December 31, 2013 until 00:30 on January 1, 2014 at Bosingak Belfry in Jongno-gu, Seoul,

First started in 1953, the bell-ringing ceremony ushers in the New Year by ringing the bell 33 times at the stroke of midnight. This celebrated tradition is one of the many customs handed down from the Joseon Dynasty. Aside from symbolizing the end of the year, it also represents the citizen’s hopes for a healthy, happy and prosperous 2014.

The mayor of Seoul, together with several citizen representatives, will participate in the ceremony. The big event will also feature interviews with citizens about their hopes, musical performances, and a digital performance (incorporating Bosingak with multimedia to affect the time and space perception).
