The Icheon Rice Cultural Festival, one of the top festivals included in the list of 2013 Culture Tourism Festivals of Korea, will be held from October 30 to November 3 at the area around Seolbong Park in Icheon-si, Gyeonggi-do.
Because of its excellent quality and great taste, Icheon rice was always included as one of the presents to the king during the Joseon Dynasty. In order to introduce the superiority of Icheon rice, the rice-themed festival, scheduled annually in the fall, will be featuring a parade, giant garaetteok* making (approximately 600 meters), agricultural hands-on programs, traditional folk games, and traditional music and dance performances.
Admission to the festival is free.
*garaetteok: a variety of rice cake made with rice as the base material, and then formed into a long white cylinder shape.
