The Jeongseon Arirang Festival 2013 will take place at Arari Park in Jeongseon-eup, Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon-do from October 2 to 5, 2013.
This year marks the festival’s 38th year of celebrating the quintessential Korean folk song. In December 2012, Arirang was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. For this reason, the festival hopes to provide visitors with a more memorable experience this year. Focusing on Jeongseon Arirang, the theme for this year’s festival is “Great Cultural Asset, the Return of Arirang”.
Festivities will include various types of Arirang performances such as Jeongseon Arirang and Arirang from other regions. Exhibits and hands-on programs will be provided as well. All performances are free of charge.
*Arirang: a representative Korean folk song containing the emotion and spirit of Koreans. Many variations of the song exist depending on a region’s local characteristics, while generally containing the sorrow and pathos of Arirang.
