The 2013 World Rowing Championships, Chungju, Korea will be held at Tanguemho Lake International Boat Race Course located in Chungju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do, from August 25 to September 1.
This year’s World Rowing Championships is set to take place in the city of Chungju with approximately 2,000 rowers from 81 countries. This rowing competition is already drawing a lot of attention from home and abroad, with this year having the biggest number of participants in the event’s history. This is the second time the event is being held in Asia, the first time being in Japan. Rowing was not considered to be a popular sport in Korea, but it drew great attention after being featured in the rowing challenge episode of the popular Korean TV show Muhandojeon (Infinite Challenge) in 2011.
During the event, there will also be various cultural programs taking place including b-boy performances, cheerleading stunts, tap dancing, orchestra concerts, and samulnori (traditional Korean percussion music performed with four traditional Korean musical instruments).
During the last week of August, take a trip to Tangeumho Lake in Chungju City to see the energy and passion that these international rowing athletes have for the sport.
