PLATEAU, Samsung Museum of Art, is currently hosting “Takashi in Superflat Wonderland” a solo exhibition by Takashi Murakami. The exhibition is Murakami’s first retrospective in Asia and will run from July 4 to December 8, 2013.

Having attained his Ph.D. in Nihonga (Japanese-style paintings) at the prestigious Tokyo University of the Arts, Takashi Murakami has won consideration as one of the most innovative artists of our time by reinterpreting the Western tradition of contemporary art with a distinctly Asian sensibility. His Superflat theory refers to various flattened forms in Japanese graphic art, animation, and pop culture.

This exhibition displays 39 pieces of art including paintings, sculptures, video, balloons, curtains, and a life-sized girl doll.
