Muju Firefly Festival 2013 was honorably designated as this year’s top festival in Korea by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and is to be held at locations around Namdaecheon Water Park and Firefly Gymnasium, in Muju-eup, Muju-gun, Jeollabuk-do from June 1 to 9.
Marking its 17th year, Muju Firefly Festival remains one of Korea’s top eco-friendly festivals and will focus on two themes this year: “light” and “nature.” The festival will have four different programs, each operating under the respective themes of “water”, “light”, “night,” and “day.” The festival’s main events include “Stepping on the Spirit of the Earth*,” a Korean traditional folk game played to exorcise demons and ensure an abundance of fireflies* in Muju, exploring firefly habitats, fireworks, firefly-related performances, “lamps of flying hope,” among many others.
Admission to the festival is free of charge.
