[Korea] Restored National Treasure No. 1 to be Unveiled May 4

The Sungnyemun Gate Restoration Ceremony will be held at Sungnyemun Gate (Namdaemun Gate) in Jung-gu, Seoul-si and Gwanghwamun Square in Jongro-gu, Seoul-si on May 4 at 2:00 p.m.

The ceremony announces on both a domestic and international level the completion and celebration of the Sungnyemun Gate restoration. The restoration has taken five years and three months to complete. It will start with a ceremony to exorcise misfortune. The ceremony will also include traditional Korean performances, parades, and other performances.

“Koyuje” which announces the restoration of Sungnyemun Gate to ancestors, was carried out in a solemn ceremony at Jongmyo Shrine on May 1. Sungnyemun Gate will be open to the general public and free of admission following the ceremony.

Four main palaces in Seoul comprising Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace and Huwon, Deoksugung Palace, Changgyeonggung Palace and Jongmyo Shirne will be open with free admission on May 4, the day of the Sungnyemun Gate Restoration Ceremony.
