The 36th Daegu Yangnyeongsi Herb Medicine Festival is slated to be held from May 8-12 at Yangnyeong Market in Jung-gu, Daegu-si.
The festival takes place every May and focuses on Korean medicine. The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism (MCST) selected the festival as one of its “2013 Culture Tourism Festivals of Korea.” The festival opens with a parade and features an array of events during its five-day run. Every year, visitors crowd into major festival sites including the “medicinal herb tunnel” and “medicinal herb hill.” Visitors will be able to view medicinal herb exhibitions and have the opportunity to enjoy the healing experience of herbal remedies. Other programs include performances such as madanggeuk (traditional outdoor play), herbal medicine cultural experience programs, and sampling herbal food.
Daegu Yangnyeong-si has long served as a hub of herbal medicine distribution, providing herbal medicines to various countries including Japan, China, and Russia since the market opened in 1658.
