An exhibition hall featuring Hanyangdoseong* is slated to open inside the Seoul Museum of History in December this year (2013). Prior to the opening of the new exhibition hall, a special advanced exhibition with photographs and other materials about the past, present and possible future of Hanyangdoseong is taking place at the Dongdaemun History and Culture Park Event Hall until May 19, 2013.

The special exhibition ‘Seoul Has the City Walls’ aims to provide local and international tourists an opportunity to know more about Hanyang (Old name of Seoul) doseong (wall surrounding the capital city) and to promote the opening of the Exhibition Hall scheduled in December. ‘Seoul has the City Walls’ introduces the walls surrounding Seoul with an emphasis on its birth, ordeals and the restoration it had undergone during the course of history, using various media contents like old maps, photos, post cards, and video clips.

This exhibition is a good chance to learn about the history and various meanings of Seoul from a new perspective. The admission is free of charge.

* Hanyangdoseong: Hanyang is the old name of Seoul. Doseong refers to the defensive wall surrounding the city, can also mean the capital itself.
