The Three-story Stone Pagoda of Bulguksa Temple (National Treasure no. 21), a major representative of Silla Dynasty’s history and culture, is undergoing an overall repair.
This Three-story Stone Pagoda dates back to the year 751 when Bulguksa Temple was built. The pagoda is also commonly known as Seokgatap. Cracks were found on the pagoda during a safety inspection in December 2010. After through deliberation, it was decided that it needs an overall repair. A briefing session announced the start of the project on September 27, 2012 and the pagoda is currently undergoing repair.
The repair is expected to be completed in December 2014. During the repair, the pagoda is surrounded by a see-through protective enclosing, allowing visitors to see the repair process.
