[Korea] Sungnyemun Gate Set to Reopen in April

The restoration of Sungnyemun Gate, Korea’s 1st national treasure, is soon to be complete. Sungnyemun Gate has been undergoing restoration since February 2008 when the greater part of the structure was destroyed by a fire. During this time, Sungnyemun Gate was concealed behind construction barriers until January 17th when the protective barriers were removed, marking the first time the structure has been made visible since construction began.

A ceremony celebrating the completion of the gate’s restoration will be in held in April once several auxiliary buildings including disaster prevention facilities are completed.
