The 2013 Yeongwol Donggang Winter Festival is taking place from January 11 through February 3 at the area around Donggang River in Yeongwol-gun Gangwon-do.
Under the theme of ‘Fun Memories of Winter in Yeongwol’, the festival features various programs to see, enjoy, and make good memories with. After the opening ceremony on January 11, the festival will be hosting an array of fun activities such as mountain trout ice fishing (15,000won), and dog sledding (10,000won). There are also four-feel bikes (15,000won for 1 person/ 25,000won for 2 persons), snow UFOs (5,000won), and twin bikes (5,000won) available for visitors to enjoy. Families with children may also enjoy Korean folk games including ice sledding and top spinning. There is street food market set up around the activity area and a Tojeongbigyeol (Korean traditional fortune-telling book) reading corner.
The county holds various festivals all year round, but this is the first winter festival for Yeongwol. The admission to the festival is free and the visitors will get a 50% discount on tickets to museums located in Yeongwol. However, fees may apply to participation in some programs. Fishing rods and reels for ice fishing are available at the festival site and the prices are 6,000won and 15,000won, respectively.
