‘The Nutcracker’ returns to the stage this holiday season being performed by Korea’s major ballet companies.
▲ Universal Ballet’s ‘The Nutcracker’
The Universal Ballet Company will present ‘the Nutcracker’ from December 21nd through the 31st at Universal Arts Center in Gwangjin-gu Seoul. They will perform the Mariinsky Theatre version of ‘the Nutcracker’ with choreography by Russian Choreographer ‘Vasili Vainonen,’ which features a grand composition. The ballet ‘Nutcracker’ was first staged at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, Russia. The December 31st performance, slated to start at 22:00, will be followed by a New Year’s Eve Countdown event.
▲ Korea National Ballet’s ‘The Nutcracker’
The Nutcracker by the Korea National Ballet will be on stage from December 18th through the 25th at the Opera Theater of Seoul Arts Center in Seocho-gu, Seoul. The Bolshoi Theatre version of ‘the Nutcracker’ choreographed by Russian Choreographer Yury Nikolayevich Grigorovich will be performed. In this version of the ballet, the nutcracker, normally portrayed as a wooden doll on stage, is played by a child dancer and the name of the main character is changed from Clara to Marie. This version will also feature much more dance scenes as all the mime acts are substituted with dances.
