Introduction

The Hagindang House is Jeollabuk-do Folk Material No. 8. Hagindang was the house of Baek Nak-jung, a high-ranking official during the reign of King Gojong from the Joseon Dynasty. The most well-known traditional house in Jeonju Hanok Village, this structure (completed in 1908) displays the traditional architecture of the late Joseon Dynasty. The main building was designed for Pansori or traditional Korean opera performances, and was the first opera theater constructed in Korea. The private house adopted the court architecture style. The place features various structures including the main residential house, other attached buildings, a pond, a pavilion and a well.
